blog series: for the love of { color } #007 blue

{ #007 blue }

Blue. When I think about blue, the sky comes up. And the feathers of a blue wax-bill bird. And the color of my beloved Ouma's eyes. It's also the color of most Tuesday mornings for me.

Blue is tranquil and peaceful and represents harmony and serenity...

blog series: for the love of { color } #006 grey

{ #006 grey }

Grey. I know. The color can just never be grey anymore. It has to be associated with a shade :p. Grey is beautiful when teamed up with a dusty pink - and it is less harsh than black. Hence me using it for my Miss Milly logo. I have a vision of a little baby's room in white with accents of soft grey and pink.

Grey is a neutral colour...

blog series: for the love of { color } #005 cream

{ #005 cream }

Cream. When I think about it I go straight to my happy place. And there are so many sides to it: ivory, vanilla, antique, eggshell, old white. When these colors are layered they can create the most amazing space. It is softer than white and gives depth to things and spaces.

Cream is a very elegant color that represents calm and purity...

{ dear } November

Dear November,

Thank you for:

* Movember
* Miss Milly's first birthday
* glitter
* 1 800 likes
* rosettes
* new cover photos
* wreath doodles
* 2015

{ movember }
November is of course the month of the mustache and Miss Milly jumped right on the bandwagon with some washi tape cards & envelopes.

{ miss milly's first birthday }
Miss Milly celebrated her FIRST birthday! Go on and read all about it here.

{ glitter }
I tried my hand at glitter as it is another of my obsessions... The boy and girls reminds me a little of Bella and Edward from Twilight when they run in the sun but what the heck! They are pretty and bling! They will be available soon!

{ 1 800 likes }
Miss Milly reached 1 800 likes! It is unbelievable! Thank you to each and every one that likes and shares and loves Miss Milly!

{ rosettes }
I have been playing around with some new ideas. (And of course there was some washi tape involved!) And came up with these rosettes. They can be used to decorate gifts or whatever makes your heart flutter! They will be available soon :)

{ new cover photos }
My sweetheart took some pretty pictures for my cover photo for Miss Milly's Facebook page. I loved putting it all together and plan to do a new one at least once a month next year!

{ wreath doodles }
I have been in love with wreaths for as long as I can remember. In all its forms. In particular illustrated ones. So the other night I tried my hand at it...

{ 2015 }
I am SUPER ready for 2015! I bought myself a real pretty planner from Typo and the desk calender is a gift from my tiny friend for Christmas. I am slightly obsessed with planning as I have
* a planner on my laptop,
* one that I print out and stick on my clipboard,
* then I have my actual diary,
* a desk planner,
* as well as a small one in my handbag...
It is an absolute nightmare to get them all coordinated (not because I am so busy, but because there are just so many!) Maybe I need to scale down?!

Happy { 1st birthday } dearest Miss Milly

One year. I still can't believe it. That my dream is a reality and also that she is already a year old!

What an incredible journey it has been...

Seeing my Miss Milly taking off... slowly but surely. She started off with a few products. A year down the line it has grown to a good few lines and I find myself bursting at my washi tape seams with even more ideas. And the possibility of going the wholesale route.

There is a heart painted into every corner, a soul cut into every washi tape strip, an incredible love woven into every paper and a sincere prayer into every piece of wood. Into every single piece that leaves, there is a piece of me that travels with it.

The first year. Some of my highlights:

{ caitlyn de beer's blog }
Miss Milly featured on the lovely Caitlyn de Beer's blog as part of her Let's chat Tuesday series. This lady is just so inspiring and her Creative Business series was the washi tape on the cake, to get me going with Miss Milly! Here's the post about Miss Milly on her blog.

{ ideas magazine / idees tydskrif }
It was such an awesome day when I opened the Ideas magazine / Idees tydskrif for July 2014 and found a little snippet on Miss Milly! It was a proud moment for me as I am a big fan of this magazine and to be mentioned in it, is a great honor!

{ tierlantyn'kies }
I know I have said it a million times. And I will say it a million more. But I loved Tierlantyn'kies Kuier & KoopfeesIf you missed the post, go and read all about it here}
{ waardevol on kyknet }
Miss Milly was featured as part of the Tierlantyn'kies insert on Waardevol on Kyknet. It was such a blessing to have something like this happen to Miss Milly before she even celebrates her first birthday!

I am just so grateful. To all of you. For your endless support. Love. Prayers. Kindness. Gentle hearts. And for loving my Miss Milly as much as I love her. But most importantly to God. For this incredible dream. For every door He opens and every one He closes.

Here's to another year!

{ dear } October

Dear October,

Thank you for:

* Tierlantyn'kies
* waardevol on kyknet
* magnets
* bunting
* cupcake flags
* meraki

{ tierlantyn'kies }
The highlight of my October was definitely the Tierlantyn'kies Kuier & Koopfees. And I am still gloating. And probably will for a very long time... If you missed out on this opportunity to take home something pretty from Miss Milly, send me an email for a catalogue { missmillysa@gmail.com }.

{ waardevol on kyknet }
Miss Milly was featured as part of the Tierlantyn'kies insert on Waardevol on Kyknet. It was such an honor to be part of it! Elma Postma the beautiful presenter is even more beautiful in real life!

{ magnets }
The magnets was launched at Tierlantyn'kies and such a hit! The best way to prettify your fridge, is to stock up on some magnets for it. They are lasercut wood and painted in Miss Milly's signature colors: grey, pink and blue and the woodland characters that is so true to Miss Milly style.

{ bunting }
Beautiful fabric bunting is another new Miss Milly addition! They come in 1.5m and 2m but can also be custom made. The colors are pretty pastels (as always!) and range from floral, checks, polka dots to stripes. And they are double sided - bonus! It is so versatile and can be used to decorate a party, a stoep, or a window!

{ cupcake flags }
The cupcake flags are still one of my favorite Miss Milly products. The quickest way to doll up any cupcake or cake!

{ meraki }
This black board that my friend Elmien, wrote for me in her beautiful handwriting, sums up the essence of Miss Milly.

Miss Milly at { Tierlantyn'kies }

Once upon a time there was a little girl with a really big dream in her heart.

“ Every dream that’s in your heart, every promise that has taken root, God not only put it there, but He has every intention of bringing it to pass. “

That little girl was me.
And that really big dream was Miss Milly.

I really, really, really wanted to have a stall at Tierlantyn’kies Kuier & Koopfees in Pretoria. Really. And at first my application was not succesful L but I understood about His time and I was patient. Patient... mmm...  maybe not quite the right word. Let me rather say I TRIED to be patient...

And then; when His time was right, my application was successful! I was over the moon and gave a good few ballerina jumps. Initially. And then the nerves set in. And then some more. And then more. Until I felt like one big nerve wrapped in washi tape from head to toe. I turned into a Washizilla...

But let's not spoil this pretty post with my Washizillaness... Let's keep it pretty!

Once I was accepted the SERIOUS pink and SERIOUS pretty planning of my stall started. I loved every minute of it! From sourcing display bowls and crates, to painting it - it was all just magical.

I settled on lots of pastel colours mixed with raw wood to create the look that is Miss Milly. I sourced most of my display bowls and crates, some of it came from my own kitchen cupboard and alot, and I mean ALOT, of it was also upcycled thingies from both my grandmother's, my mom and my own home.

* The trays for the magnets, were really ugly trays from the 60's that I spray painted white,
* All the wire baskets were old freezer baskets,
* The tins used to elevate the glass jars with the washi tape candles, were old coffee tins that were spray painted and decorated with washi tape,
* The tins used for the notebooks were bread baking tins that were also painted,
* The large round "wheels" I found when someone wanted to throw them away; were in bad shape but I saw potential and with a few coats of paint they worked perfectly to create height for my bowls with the mini wood brooches!

It just goes to show that with a bit of imagination and a whole lot of spray paint, you could give a new life to almost anything!

My screens were made from vinyl and the artwork was done by my sweetheart and I. I added some fairy lights that I made myself to tie in with all the other typical Miss Milly elements.

I also used my beloved floral washi tape to add a whimsical touch here and there. Okay I lie - I used it EVERYWHERE!

Beautiful proteas and some other fynbos, added a fresh element to my stall. I just love, love the colors of the proteas! So soft and feminine.

I was in love with everything about my stall and it was everything and more than I could imagine or even dream of. And when it was all over and time to pack up, I was heartbroken and it took me a good few days to come to terms with it...

“ meraki { greek }
the soul, creativity, or love put into something, the essence of yourself that is put into your work. “

I had an incredible time!
And I would do it again and again and again... and then some more.

I have met { amazing } ladies - and I feel so blessed that our paths crossed. I was touched in many ways by the compliments from total strangers. I was happy to let my Miss Milly pretties find new homes and bring happiness to whomever owns it. Sadly, I had to deal with the "not so nice" side of the human being too but it made me all grown up! I was surrounded by creative beings from beginning to end. I fell in love with washi tape all over again. And with my Miss Milly. I learnt to trust in God, no matter what. I will keep doing what I love. And I will keep dreaming this dream.

" I am and always will be the optomist, the hoper of far-flung hopes and the dreamer of improbable dreams."
- the doctor -

Thank you to all of you. For your support. Love. Prayers. Kindness. Gentle hearts. And for loving my Miss Milly as much as I love her.

blog series: for the love of { color } #004 green

{ #004 green }

Green always makes me think of trees and forests. And those two are definitely among my favorite things in Creation! Lately I have been madly in love with mint green and I have a deep desire to paint my kitchen cupboards in a really soft mint...

Green is a fresh color that represents loyalty, awareness and once again the earth. It's the color of life for me...

{ dear } September

{ a week late but what the heck! }

Dear September,

Thank you for:

* the Tierlantyn'kies countdown
* tealight candles in glass jars
* baby clipboard
* frame
* washi tape earrings
* gold washi tape cards & envelopes
* washi tape brooches
* washi tape cards & envelopes
* washi tape tins
* pretty proteas
* Tierlantyn'kies set-up

{ the  tierlantyn'kies countdown }
As you all know by now, my Miss Milly is going to Tierlantyn'kies Kuier & Koopfees from 01 - 05 October 2014 in Pretoria! The countdown to it, is extremely nerve wrecking and exciting all at the same time.

{ ** new producttealight candles in glass jars }
I liked the idea of making tealight candles wrapped in washi tape... however it came with a few challenges. I decided to package it in glass jars so that it can serve as a gift to someone. It comes with a gift tag that matches the washi tape used on the tealight candles and is such a great gift idea!

{ ** new product: baby clipboard }
After I launched the A4 clipboard #lanklewedieclipboard I stumbled across the little ones { A5 } and it was love at first sight. I am making a few to try out at Tierlantyn'kies to see if there is a market for it. I made myself one to match her bigger sister, and I adore the set!

{ ** new productframe }
I played around with some of the painted laser cut wood that I use for my other Miss Milly products and some washi tape and came up with these small frames. They are perfect for a craft room or nursery. I kept the frames neutral in white and natural wood and added some color with the washi tape and laser cut wood.

{ washi tape earrings }
Gone are the days of making a few pairs of washi tape earrings at a time! I had to seriously bulk up on stock but I loved every minute of playing around with new washi tape designs for the earrings.

{ gold washi tape cards & envelopes }
Who would have thought that gold could make for such a pretty picture? I love how the card and envelope sets came out...

{ washi tape brooches }
As I enjoyed working with the gold washi tape so much, I decided to try out a few washi tape brooches in gold, grey and silver and I am totally in love with it!

{ washi tape cards & envelopes }
I just can't get enough of the happy Spring colors used in these single cards & envelopes! It is such a pretty addition to any gift!

{ washi tape tins }
The washi tape tins are my flavor of the month! Or should I say week?! I played around with some black and white washi tape, as not every one is a pastel girl like me, and I must admit that I am over the moon about the way they came out!

{ pretty proteas }
I bought these pretties at a florist in Pretoria to use in my stall at Tierlantyn'kies. I can't get enough of them and love the soft color of it!

{ tierlantyn'kies set-up }
Finally! It is here. After arriving early evening in Pretoria, we offloaded all the Miss Milly screens, tables and stock and started midday on the Tuesday to put everything up. I was truly in my happy place and had to pinch myself to make sure it was really my dream busy happening! The stall changed about a billion times as I was setting up and making sure everything is displayed at it's best and then I changed it again! Keep following along as I will do a full post on Miss Milly at Tierlantyn'kies!
